Sometimes people need a reminder that just because someone has succeeded you can not discount the hard work and struggle they put in to get there.
With me being a personal trainer I do not allow a "handicap" to be a death sentence for anyone I work with or care about. To some this may seem harsh but no where in the success manual does it say your not gonna hurt some feelings along the way.
I train and talk to people from experience. I was not born genetically perfect and an outstanding athlete. I have worked hard to achieve what I have and have much more to do. I deal with a muscle disorder every day...but the key phrase is "deal with". I do not let it put me down. Life is to short.
In America we are far to concerned with someones feelings. Sometimes after trying it the nice way with 0 results it time to say "guess what...your way isnt working" Time to suck it up and get some health back!
I have done it all...been through all the pain and have the knowledge too helps others.
I will take all the opinions you want to throw at me. " He's to harsh....He doesnt understand" and so on.
But at the end of the day when you finally decide you are done feeling sorry for yourself or using "cant" as a crutch, there is a whole world waiting for you.
Im the way I am because I have already paved that road. I have said every excuse you can think of when it comes to pain. It wasnt until someone said "hey your not dead stupid" when I realized success was up to me...not my weight or a doctors diagnosis.
Sit down and let life go by as you cry if you want but im here to tell you your missing out.
Life does not suck as I used to think...its actually pretty damn amazing no matter who you are.
Deal with whatever circumstance you have and as long as at the end of the day you can look in the mirror and HONESTLY say "I lived today to its fullest" you have done a great job.
If not...suck it up and stop crying.
Make everyday the best day you can for you!

The ongoing Blog on Health and Fitness - Nutrition for Life
Sit back and relax folks and this blog will be like a child, small at birth and growing with each passing day.
First a little about me:
1, There is only black and white. There is only right and wrong. When I say this I mean by the rules of the world and humanity not the laws of man. The right thing can be done but be illegal by mans laws..None the less it was still the right thing to do for humanity and the world. Excuses are never exceptable and never apologize if you feel just in what you have done.
2. There are no trophies for losing. If you lost, try harder next time. I will not reward you for sucking. If I did why would you ever try to be better. Getting a prize for just showing up only does you a dis service in life as no employer cares about your self esteem. If you want to be better than make it happen.
3. Shut up...stop whining. Take responsibility for yourself...good and bad.
A little on life
The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that.

Who would have thought something so moving would have come from a Rocky movie. Well....I would as Sylvester Stallone is also very savy in the fitness business and speaks in his books much on his own personal experiences. Check them out.
“Laugh at yourself and at life. Not in the spirit of derision or whining self-pity,
but as a remedy, a miracle drug, that will ease your pain, cure your
depression, and help you to put in perspective that seemingly terrible
defeat and worry with laughter at your predicaments, thus freeing your
mind to think clearly toward the solution that is certain to come. Never
take yourself too seriously.” Move on!
Lets talk your Health and Fitness
Do you care? That's step one....here is why you should
Now for all the Excuses
1. I don't have the time ( REALLY cause you sure had time to watch the football game and eat nachos and bean dip didn't you)
2. I don't have the energy to exercise.....Ok vicious circle here.....get your ass off the couch and exercise and you will get the energy you need to get it done.
3. I wont eat "diet food". Get educated before you make statements like this. Food that is good for you does not taste bad....unless you eat doormats for fiber....who does that? try clean eating magazine and many sources for proper nutrition.
4. I could go on with the list of excuses I have been given but I think you get the point....an excuse is only that...an excuse.
Here is the one that totally just torks me beyond belief.
" I only eat one time a day, why dont I lose any weight?"
Ummm...maybe because your starving yourself and your metabolism has shut down. You need to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day along with exercise fixes this. But do they listen? Nope they continue to starve themselves and complain. Don't ask for help or answers then ignore them. Its a waste of your trainers time and yours.
Believe in yourself
Trust the process and your trainer.
Change forever
Now for our EXCUSE DEPT - Here is my team to serve you.
Please submit any excuse you may have below....we will get to it as soon as we can.
I have been told by some that my approach with people is "rough around the edges" to put it plainly. The fact is I'm not here for anyone to like me...I'm here to get you results if you decide that you and your family are important enough to stick around for. Personally I truly don't care if I hurt your feelings. I will never say anything that isn't true and if you cant handle the truth then maybe you need a little schooling in sucking it up. I'm not a mean person and will never try to just make you cry, but I will never sugar coat the truth....if you chrome and outhouse...its just a shiny outhouse and still stinks.
I will also say that I am NOT the all knowing....Please for your own health find something that is right for you. I can only hope that I have either made you angry enough to look further or determined enough to keep following....You being healthy is the point of all of this!
What does it take to get you started on feeling better, having the body you want and minimizing or all together getting rid of any meds you may be taking.
Lets take a look and see what program you may think is right for you.
Start there...do your research...this isn't about me selling you something.....the choice is up to you....I can answer questions and give you advice but only you know what looks good, fun and exciting enough to keep you on track.
You have the power to do anything you want....you only need the want and desire to make it happen. Far to many times the individual defeats themselves without trying...or they try for a short amount of time and give up....Please please do not do this to yourself....your size and age do not matter....you can change anytime you are ready for the journey....the human mind, body and spirit are the most amazing machines. Taken care of properly they can run and run hard for many many years!
Michael Jordan once said "I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed."
Learn to love your failures as each time you do you learn how to succeed.
Again remember to stress less about working out. Relax. Whether you workout in the gym or home, just do it, something, just get started. Force yourself to just get some time in. Every day you do its gets easier to exercise. Not that the exercise should be easy, just your more likely to want to.
I cant say enough and please trust me. The TOUGHEST part is simply getting started.
Simple and Applicable
I have had many of my close friends tell me I should write a book. Maybe this is the start of that. My rough draft, my outline.
Most of my life I was told don't, or cant or why would you. I was called silly for trying or told I wouldn't succeed. All that negativity took its tolls for the first 35 years of my life and I just didn't try that hard because like Eor and his tail...." Don't bother....it will just fall off again anyway". Then around 36 my wife Andrea started making me do things. All sorts of things...WAYYYYY outside my "comfort zone" Guess what....nothing happened to me...the world did not implode and we still have gravity....I did things just because I wanted to...WOW...what a concept.
I always wanted to weight lift as a kid...I was the kid in school that everyone else shoved in a locker. 6 ft tall and all of a buck 40 soaking wet....Then my father got involved when I voiced my want to weight lift....I can still hear his voice...."oh Christ why would you wanna do that? when you hit 70 all that muscle is just gonna go to jello and kill you".....I was to young at the time and he was my ALL knowing father but lousy advice coming from a guy who smoked 3 packs a day. So day in and day out through my teenage years into young adult and even into my 30's, letting my family and other Nay Sayers make decisions for me. Talk me out of what I KNEW was right and good for me.
At this point a lot of people that where "my crowd" started disappearing....why do you ask? Because I was no longer able to be held down. I was no longer a follower of doom and gloom. I even drove out to my parents house one day and told them both that if they couldn't be supportive then they can stick a cork in it.
Its surprising to see who the real people with real morals are. To my fathers credit he has done just that (the best he can) tried to be supportive or at least notices me glaring at him when he starts in with his crap and shuts up. My mother is another story.....Lets move on.
Once I had a good influence in my life....all of the sudden life didn't suck. If I wanted to do something, I just did it....Holy Crap....it works...Nike was right. Just do it. I wanted to jump up and down and scream Just F'in do it! Very tough concept for me to grasp as a child because my father was a thinker.....couldn't just do something...had to think about it first....this took days and nothing got done. So for me the concept of JUST DO IT was like being reborn!
Getting your mind right
I cant stress enough the importance of letting go of old habits. The bad ones that have gotten you no where. You know the saying "if you always do what you always did you always get what you always got". Which is fine if you got all you want from it but if not its time to change it up.
What do you want to do, what do you want to be? Set that goal in your head. write it down if you need to but get your mind wrapped around it. There is no pill or quick fix, only persistence and dedication to you and where you want to be. Goals people. You have to have them. Otherwise your just a human tree growing roots.
Coming to the conclusion that you need to get back in shape and take control of your health is like any other problem. First you have to except that it is a problem, then you can move on the rest of your "12 steps".
There are 2 major issues with getting back into shape.
1. Support from those around you.
2. Taking the stress of it all off your mind. (Society..well lazy people really, put such a stigma on fitness and health).
If your not one of those people who can just jump right in and go go go then ease into it. Let your mind wrap itself around the concept. Watch the infomercials on fitness. Go to the gym and just watch what goes on. Do what you need to to take the fear out of it.
You have to remember, this is a marathon of fitness and life. Not a sprint.
Its took years to get out of shape, what a few more months to get back into shape.
For some this may mean just getting off the couch and walking a few hundred steps down to the corner and back, a few more minutes sweeping the floors or deciding to use the push mower instead of the rider.
Here is an idea....instead of driving around for 20 minutes waiting for a parking spot right next to the supermarket door, try earning your dinner and parking out a ways in the lot and walking. I know its an outrageous concept, but try it.
You will be surprised how if you just start. Get up and do something how much better you will start to feel.
Obsessed with Skinny
I hear this all the time from people ( mainly those who dont work out) " I'm not gonna be obsessed with being skinny!"
Ok...don't! why should you, or anybody for that matter. Just because you are skinny doesn't make you healthy. There are plenty of studies to show where heavier people who exercise out live skinny people who don't. Its ok to be big as long as you exercise and stay active. Which in turn over time will take care of being big.
What you have to do is really take a look at who is negative about health and fitness. Did you ever hear Lance Armstrong says " wow I wish I had never done this cause this sucks!"??? No you haven't. The only people who Poo Poo working out and getting healthy are also the ones who...well, don't work out.
I have people tell me im obsessed all the time, but ya know what....its never the group of people I work out with...it the other people I know who don't. People don't like when you better yourself....they want you to stay stagnant ,this way they don't feel worse about themselves cause misery loves company.
Now I can not speak for all humans and I know this, so for those of you who are happy with who you are and don't mind:
Never be afraid to change up the "friends" in your life. Many times the term "friend" is used very very loosely.
True friends will NEVER EVER be negative to you for trying to better yourself. Doesn't matter what you want to do, Go back to school, get in better shape or start a new better job. A true friend will support you the whole time. On the flip side a true friend should kick your ass for being stupid and not be afraid to speak up.
Support in your life is key. You must have supportive people in your life. If you need to then OUT with the OLD and IN with the NEW!
I know....repetitive right? Have you got it yet? SUPPORT
As I write this I will continue to say one thing
I rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who im not. I shoot from the hip...its just how I am.
GOALS
Got to have them!
However make your goals achievable. This will help you to not abandon ship! Remember marathon not a sprint. Rome was not built in a day.
I'm also not a big fan of the scale. All of you know you cant weigh yourselves once a week and be happy...you gotta step on that damn thing 8 times a day like a miracle happened and you lost 100 lbs in 2 hours while watching Opra.....Not gonna happen!
I personally would rather you dealt with measurements or how your clothes fit. This is progress!
When you jump on the scale all the time you just defeat yourself....stop doing that!
So, are you ready? Ready to take your life back.
If not now, when? Will you suddenly have more time next week? Will a miracle happen that allows you all you need to do what you have to do? That would be cool but im not betting my money so....lets go!
One of my "students" called me this morning to apologize because she only made is 30 minutes of a 60 minute workout. Today was her first day. She has decided to take back her life and save her health. When she called me this morning I asked her when the last time she worked out for 30 minutes was. She couldn't remember. I told her nice work asked her if she could give me 32 minutes tomorrow. Forget the fact that its 60 minutes. I want you to do what you can do! 110%! No more, no less. If you do that, you will get better and better and more healthy each and every day.
You and your health are not about how many pull ups or push ups you can do NOW or about how long you can do jumping jacks until you vomit. Its about getting started. Its about teaching your body how to be fit and healthy again...It used to know and it will remember again but give it time. The people on these DVD's and infomercials have all been doing this for a long amount of time. Stop trying to keep up! Do what you can for now. Then when the time has come...you will be able to keep up with them and move on to the next level, if you are so inclined.
Do yourself a huge favor. Forget your ego....if you can only do one push up then do one....one good one, until you can do 2 and so on. Give yourself time to adapt and get used to the new routine. NOW...I did not just say be lazy and quit just cause you wanna. Remember I said 110% effort and if right now that's 1 push up then that's what it is but give it the 110.
Super Size Me
What the hell is wrong with us! This is not a joke at the drive through. Its a death sentence people!
Not to mention the fact who needs that much food in one meal. For cryin out loud the 42 oz super sized Coke has 410 calories ( this is close to what an entire meal should be.) I wont even get into all of the other chemicals and crap. I'm not much for talking religion but Gluttony is one of the 7 deadly sins and is one you can prove!
Your supposed to eat every couple hours....not need a couple hours to eat.
Simple changes change you life. Here is one...stop killing yourself with the wrong kind and amounts of food.
Even if you have an allergic reaction to exercise.....you can eat better and be healthier and loose weight.
Oh and P.S. on this one.....tired of being tired all the time, headaches, stomach issues, achy bones and joints?
Try a salad or some chicken breast from home instead of choking on the exhaust from the car ahead of you inline at the drive through just to get crap food that is slowly killing you. Well wait....you are slowly killing you be eating it. People...responsibility.
Oh and by the way...One last comment in regards to the drive through.....STOP SUING MCDONALDS!
If you eat at a fast food restaurants alot.....your going to get fat! I haven't seen one photograph of a clown with a gun to someones head stuffing a cheeseburger in their mouth. So until that happens....ITS YOUR FAULT YOU ATE THERE! Once again.....Responsibility!
Question of the Day
I had some question me today on the fact that they never hear me say anything negative and that I always seems to be happy or in a good peace of mind.
The question was how is that possible and they don't believe that it is possible.
Well.....they are right. Trust me...I'm just as human as the next guy. Things in life take toll on me just like everyone else, but that's not the point. The solution is how you handle it. Sure things upset me. Push back my positive attitude but am I gonna let that ruin my life or day? NO!
Being upset never solved anything and upset is like a cancer and it eats into everything you do.
Ya gotta learn to shake it off, or at least fake it till ya make it! Even if your upset, if you paste on a smile and move on...pretty soon its a real smile taking over.
Don't let people or "things" get the best of you.
Smile! Have you ever noticed how easily puppies make friends? Yet all they do is wag their tails and fall over?
Ok so now come the people who are going to say to me...." Everything in moderation is ok"
Yup your right....however when you are standing on the scale saying to yourself, "why cant I drop these last few pounds?" Remember you said to me "everything on moderation".
I've learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you, that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel. Heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done. Circumstances may have influenced who you are, but YOU are responsible for who you become.
First a little about me:

The right thing can be done but be illegal by mans laws..None the less it was still the right thing to do for humanity and the world. Excuses are never exceptable and never apologize if you feel just in what you have done.
2. There are no trophies for losing. If you lost, try harder next time. I will not reward you for sucking. If I did why would you ever try to be better. Getting a prize for just showing up only does you a dis service in life as no employer cares about your self esteem. If you want to be better than make it happen.
3. Shut up...stop whining. Take responsibility for yourself...good and bad.

Do you care? That's step one....here is why you should
The health problems associated with obesity are numerous. Obesity is not just a cosmetic problem. It's a health hazard. Someone who is 40% overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as is an average-weight person. This is because obesity has been linked to several serious medical conditions, including:
- Heart disease and stroke.
- High blood pressure.
- Diabetes.
- Cancer.
- Gallbladder disease and gallstones.
- Osteoarthritis.
- Gout.
- Breathing problems, such as sleep apnea (when a person stops breathing for a short time during sleep) and asthma.

Say this in your head every day - I fight for me, I win for me! FOR ME!
Yup your right....however when you are standing on the scale saying to yourself, "why cant I drop these last few pounds?" Remember you said to me "everything on moderation".
I've learned that either you control your attitude or it controls you, that we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel. Heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done. Circumstances may have influenced who you are, but YOU are responsible for who you become.
Make your life how you want it. Its ...ALWAYS up to you!
